People come to therapy for a number of reasons. A primary purpose of therapy is to identify what stands in the way of a fulfilling life and to challenge whatever that may be. Perhaps you are entering therapy because you are unhappy and are seeking a more satisfying and meaningful life. It may be that your relationships are not working out, you feel stuck, or you are going through something that feels too heavy to handle on your own. You might be feeling emotions you are not comfortable with, such as depression, anxiety, emptiness, or fear. Finding meaning in our suffering, personal growth, and finding a path in life that is the best for us are very real expectations that you can look for in this work.
Some of the issues you may want to explore in individual personal therapy with me are:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Grief and Bereavement
- Life Transitions, including mid-life concerns
- Affair recovery
- Separation and Divorce
- Loneliness
- Self-esteem
- Communication issues
- Relationship difficulties
- Addictions
- Crises of Meaning
- Spiritual Growth
As a depth-oriented psychotherapist, I am not only concerned with your symptoms and their relief but also work at understanding their underlying origins. What is your unconscious trying to tell you about the life you are living and where is it leading you? Suffering is a part of every life. We can choose to grow as a result of it or we can stay stuck in our old patterns of behaviour and continue to suffer. What will your choice be?
My work is informed by a number of different perspectives: psychodynamic, object relations, cognitive-behavioural, attachment theory, Jungian, and others. I believe in tailoring therapy to the individual: one size does not fit all.
